I am the opposite of a fair weather friend to jigsaw puzzles, since I virtually never get involved with jigsaw puzzles when the weather is nice. But when winter winds start blowing, my attention turns once again to table space that can be reserved for the assembling of a puzzle, and I begin searching online for challenging designs that will interest me.
The act of assembling a jigsaw puzzle has a number of things to recommend it. Such an activity is mentally challenging, and uses parts of the brain that may otherwise find little exercise. It is a quiet activity, sometimes prompting deep and reflective thinking. It is something that can be stopped and started at will, whenever the inclination or opportunity arises. There is an added bonus with these puzzles, as one not only gets all of the aforementioned benefits, but also becomes more acquainted with specific works of art.
